On this 1 1/2 hour beach walk, Capt. Skip will explain where the sand, water and salt came from. The first half of the trip, we'll do some experiments to prove bouyancy and salinity. The second half, we'll identify dune plants, birds, shells and whatever else we can find on the beach.
You will learn how much salt is in sea water. We will find out and prove if we are more or less bouyant in sea water or fresh water by doing some simple experiments.
We will collect and identify shells. How is a shell made ? Learn what a bi-valve is. What is a univalve ? Why do many of the shells we collect have a little hole drilled in them?
Capt. Skip will try and answer these questions and more.
Capt. Skip will also talk about crabs, jellyfish, dolphin, bull sharks, beach mice, butterflies, and sea turtles.

Writers of all genres and levels of success come together for this annual event. In its 20+ years, this festival’s primary goal has been to pay homage to Frank Brown, a well-known night watchman for the Flora-Bama Lounge. Today the festival provides an atmosphere to promote all writers, whether they had written hit songs which made people open their eyes and view the world in a different way or they are aspiring writers and musicians who knew they could do the same but needed a forum in order to get their music out to the world.
